Who will disturb the peace of Contea anymore?
<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For me, Ismaele Orsatti was one of those people who convinced me that magic exists and that it's often found on the other side of the hedge (or, in my case, on the other side of the river). He was almost 90 years old and had an energy, at his age, that I didn't even have at 20. We met because one day I went to visit him at his mill (actually, it was a pasta factory, and he was keen to point that out) because it was wonderful, like the one in a snack bar commercial, and I kindly asked if it was possible to take a couple of photos dressed as a hobbit. He immediately welcomed me with equal kindness, and I immediately understood that I wasn't just dealing with a good old country man, but with a true personality from times gone by. He was cultured, very cultured, so much so that, knowing I had leukemia, he gave me book after book on how to cure all my ailments with medicinal plants. He gave me dozens of different plants and got it into his head that I should build a greenhouse to grow them. I promised him a thousand times that I would build it with the materials he kindly wanted to give me, but I was unable to keep that promise.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

But I'll stick with it, whatever the cost. Everyone was amazed at my friendship with him, who was seen as gruff and quarrelsome. I was fortunate enough to know his softer side, but also his unwavering, immovable one, constantly fighting against the quarry that had devastated that section of the river where, he told me, he used to go trout fishing as a young man. He was omnipresent in Contea, and every time, no matter what I was doing, he would remind me of the famous greenhouse and the steel pipes I absolutely had to go and get\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

He came to Contea events several times, and even though he didn't quite understand why people had pointed ears or fake beards, he enjoyed every moment of joy with us. I know I made him smile a lot, and I'm happy about that. But in my heart, I feel like Contea has lost one of its greatest friends. Goodbye, Ismaele, you will always be part of the wonderful story of how Contea Gentile was born, and I will never forget you.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
