A Hobbit Village in Abruzzo: Here is the Contea of Nicolas Gentile
The Gentile project, which rose to fame for having thrown the ring into the “Mount Fate of Italy” (Vesuvius), takes shape in Bucchianico, Abruzzo, also thanks to the annual fairs dedicated to Tolkienians. Giulia Giaume interviewed him for Artribune
A blinding sun, velvet waistcoats and sweet music: in the heart of Abruzzo, rural Bucchianico holds a small paradise dedicated to lovers of Tolkien's saga, The Lord of the Rings, but not only. It is the Contea Gentile, the project of reconstruction of a Hobbit county born from the will of Nicolas Gentile, a pastry chef who grew up in the province of Chieti and returned home after years away from home.
The rediscovery of the territory, in a fantasy key, is the basis of the epic of Gentile, who rose to fame last September for having thrown a symbolic ring into the “Mount Fate of Italy”, Vesuvius, reached on foot from Abruzzo: an epic stunt to publicize the opening of a Patreon profile to finance the project of a micro-community inspired by the dictates of the Hobbit. Precisely to raise funds, he organized an annual meeting in Contea, Bentornati a casa: three days of Tolkien conferences, sumptuous lunches and fantasy and medieval activities for 500 participants, every year for two years since March 24, the day in which Frodo and Sam destroyed Sauron's ring.
Here we met him to find out about his current and future projects…
